At the mouth of the Nam Ou River to the Mekong River with its famous Buddha Caves - two caves, which date back to the sixteenth century is here were imported from the Buddha statues destroyed temples. With time it became customary, and every year people bring statues of the caves. There are several thousand. But it is doubtful whether the oldest is still here. To the Buddha Caves can be reached by hired boat from Luang Prabang. We arrived here on the second day of our kayak expedition Nam Ou River. Another direction is Ngói Muang. First, waiting for my local bus trip (which turned out to be forged truck) and then by boat. Villages on this stretch of the river Nam Ou are naturally isolated from civilization. The only way for them is a river, on the other hand are surrounded by mountains. There are no cars, motorbikes, cells lose their coverage. Together with me, the boat floats and a TV satellite dish, it is the only local entertainment. Electricity in the village is only for three evening hours. The tourists are offered a simple life. Jungle. Bamboo huts. The more "luxury" are en suite. Tourists asked to shower and western toilet, so the locals responded to this demand. Dusk falls, more sounds are mined from the surrounding greenery. It's cicadas. Other insects dormant during the hot day, now appear in countless numbers, and cotton. Pushed to the light bulb suspended above the terrace. Lazy geckos eat only the larger specimens. When you fall asleep under the mosquito net, I wonder whether any of these flying Boeing not crept in and now creeps somewhere near me wanting to disturb my sleep. Imagination works. I fall asleep. The morning after no sign of insects. Nam Ou River offers countless possibilities for canoeing trips. As a fan of the sport once again pick up the Nam Ou, this time further north in the vicinity of Luang Nam Tha. We are in a larger group: Yuka Japan, Tiina and Kimmo from Finland, Cam from New Zealand and Vince from Belgium. The rainy season is just beginning, so the river quite calm, but many  interrupt repetitive rowing. Around the remnants of tropical forests, villages and Lanthanum Khumu minorities. We spent the night in a somewhat Spartan in a traditional bamboo hut with the furnace.
